US Espionage? Immoral!

Heaven forbid we actually have such people!

We recently engaged in a discussion on Facebook relating to the state of US Intelligence today, and why we have so many failures -- including 9/11.  Although we spend tens of billions of dollars on technical and electronic intelligence, we neglect the most lucrative and effective INT of them all.

Spy vs Spy     (c) Peter Kuper

We'll provide a bit of insight, and, if there is an audience, we'll expand to go into some specifics.

We'll focus today on the very basic form of intelligence, which derives from espionage, which is dubbed the "Second Oldest Profession"  -- and perhaps the most profitable.

HUMINT (Human Intelligence (encompassing everything from clandestine and covert operations to diplomats, military officers, and foreign correspondents)] has always been regarded as the Ugly Stepchild in the Intel biz since it doesn't have the whiz-bang allure of hugely expensive satellite and intercept systems.  We speak from personal experience in most of these specialties.

It gets lots of bad press when the bad guys catch one of our spies and feeds the MSM to exploit the embarrassment.

It's sooo immoral!

Jonathon Pollard - Israeli Spy
A well-placed penetration agent [aka: spy], expensed at less than $1 million, can provide reporting which can't be matched by billion dollar satellites or multi-billion dollar NSA monitoring. The cost of one satellite pass exceeds the annual HUMINT budget at DOD.

Jonathon Pollard, recruited by Israel to spy against the US, worked at Navy's HUMINT program and collected thousands of Top Secret intelligence documents, to include satellite codes, from the Navy, CIA, and DIA, turning them over to Israel, South Africa, Pakistan, and China.   He also provided information on the location and activities of US intelligence personnel, who were subsequently blown up in a "terrorist" incident.   [His trial defense was that his espionage was based on altruism and his love of Israel.]

The cost of this highly productive HUMINT recruitment?  $1,500 per month.

Robert Hanssen - FBI Agent [USSR Spy]

Robert Hannssen was recruited by and spied for the Soviets/Russians for 20+ years in a role which played out to be the "... worst intelligence disaster in US history."

Hanssen identified US operatives from all US agencies, counter-espionage operations, and identified double-agents in the USSR which the CIA had recruited -- resulting in their arrest and execution.

Since the FBI is the agency which coordinates and clears all domestic intelligence operations by the entire US Intelligence Community, he was able to pass to his handlers information about any foreign agent being managed in the United States.

The cost to the Soviets for this extraordinarily lucrative operation?  About $6,000 per month.

Although our enemies and allies have targeted and been very successful in conducting espionage against and within the US, our Congress finds such activities on the part of the US to be repulsive and "illegal."  Repeatedly, the US Intelligence Community has been targeted as "the enemy" by both Congress and Administration officials who seem absolutely determined to strip the US of this most useful form of intelligence.
The Democrats have traditionally been very effective in crippling HUMINT, often capitalizing on explosive publicity following rogue operations or abusive situations created by power hungry politicians and non-intelligence personnel.

Holding up poison dart gun used to induce heart attacks
-- similar to that allegedly used to kill Andrew Breitbart
Politicians love to express outrage over revelations that our operatives helped topple a foreign government which hampered US regional strategy.

The Church Committee stripped the CIA and DOD of clandestine assets world-wide, sending out  pink slips to the top tier of case officers.

The Committee was spawned following news that Intelligence operatives, including Military Intelligence, was spying  and keeping dossiers on Congress.

They were also outraged that operatives were not only spying on both enemies and allies, but also that there were covert operations designed to assassinate designated enemies as well as to overthrow governments judged to be inimical to US strategic interests.

I know Nothing!
Some of you may recall Nancy Pelosi going through this charade as she condemned US Intelligence operations and denied knowledge of, or having endorsed the very operations she condemned.

Even after being presented with documents she had signed acknowledging being briefed on the topic, she continued to deny all knowledge.

Of course, even before the Church Committee, Henry Kissinger was stripping the Intelligence Community of its capabilities, shutting down both covert and clandestine operations world-wide, and cutting his own covert agreements with the Chinese -- to sell out the US military in Viet Nam.

In response to the Church Committee findings, Jimmy Carter and Stansfield Turner gutted the top 50% of the Clandestine Services, leaving the program in the hands of junior and inexperienced officers.

Turner cleared the IC ranks of highly qualified senior intelligence analysts who understood every nuance of the character and thought processes of leaders in adversary countries.

He fired or demoted these senior specialists since they didn't fit the "supervisor" profile; in a matter of weeks, the US lost one of its unique intelligence resources -- through Turner's "cost-benefit" analysis.

["What if we never need this analyst's interpretation of a guy like Bin Laden?  What a waste of money!"]

Reagan brought in Bill Casey, an old [very old] OSS hand and Wall Street mogulto rebuild the HUMINT system.

A few of the old CIA hands had survived the Turner purges, and Casey re-energized the CIA.

Meanwhile, a military version of the CIA's Clandestine Services division was created to focus on the Third World rather than the USSR,

The indicators were there --
but no one to collect.

We had fought a lengthy battle to salvage military HUMINT and spent many years creating a highly productive program -- lauded by the JCS and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence in 1990 for its effectiveness and productivity.

But, when Bill Clinton came into office, we were stunned when his political hacks gutted HUMINT again.  When he appointed George Tenet as DCI -- whose only experience in intelligence was as a Senate Committee administrator, it was clear DOD HUMINT was doomed.

We watched as  budget and personnel funding for DOD HUMINT -- crippling our view of the Third World and Terrorist nets, and leaving the US completely unprepared to deal with such threats.

To the astonishment of intelligence professionals, Bush retained Tenet as the DCI.

By the time George Bush assumed the Presidency in 2001, the US espionage capability had been dismantled, and agent nets in the Middle East and Far East had been dismantled, leaving the US without an early warning network.

Oddly enough, the Intelligence Community that Bush inherited had no clue -- in spite of mountains of specific evidence -- that 9/11 was in progress.

Today, we have an intelligence community that is run by technicians and poorly trained thugs who feel that torture and abuse outweigh organizational penetrations, sleight of hand, infiltration, and subterfuge.

The Chinese and Russians -- and the rest of the world -- continue to reap great information and influence rewards using HUMINT, and they have successfully penetrated the most sensitive levels of our government and political system.

The US, meanwhile, has switched to electronic monitoring, surveillance, and prosecution of its own citizens -- who seemingly have now become the enemy.

Will FCC Block Cell Phones AND The Internet?

The Deep State Inner Circle

This is a recovered post removed by Google in March, 2012
it magically reappeared in my files on 06/26/2023!

I'm republishing given its relevance
to the up-coming 2024 election!

Click here for related story [Benton Institute]

As we draw closer to the 2012 Presidential Election, it appears the 0bama Administration is increasing its attempts to control the internet and personal communications.

The Benton Institute story reports that the FCC is trying to determine if it has authority to shut down wireless service and
"... if it can preempt local, state, or government laws that prohibit or constrain the ability of anyone to interrupt service."

Oddly, this FCC interest arose following an action in San Francisco, of all places, supposedly the nexus of liberal thought in the US.

There, "... to promote public safety", the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) shut down cell phone service during public demonstrations following the police shooting of an Occupy Oakland protestor."

That Cell Phone Is A Weapon! Hand It Here!
BART decided there was
"... evidence of imminent unlawful activity threaten[ed] [public] safety..."

That meant the protestors could not communicate with each other, or send images of police misconduct.

It also meant that non-protestors were incapacitated as well as their communications with families and businesses were shut down.

Ultimately, it meant that emergency situations in which individuals in physical distress [read heart attacks, etc.] could not be reported to summon an Emergency Medical Response Team.

Of course, BART's [or the FCC's] interpretation could be extended to apply to virtually any situation in which citizens might challenge the public order or decisions made by public officials.

BART felt entitled to shut down the cell towers serving the transit system since they "belonged to BART."

That's odd.

ATT Cell Tower

We would have thought the cell towers were built and are supported by taxpayer and ridership dollars;
last we checked, BART answers to the citizens;
it is neither an autonomous nor a police-state entity.

The FCC should keep its similar status in mind as well as it answers to Congress, which answers to the US Citizens, who expect their Constitutional Right to Freedom of Speech and Assembly to be not only honored, but to be "protected" by the Government.

Ostensibly, the FCC is airing this issue [very quietly we note] to determine the limitations on its potentially restrictive actions
-- which might allow it to shut down the internet and cell phone usage as we near the national elections.

We would call that spurious conjecture had we not recently witnessed several bills before Congress seeking total control over the internet, and had we not just witnessed our beloved Attorney General shut down Kim DotCom's MegaUpload, and later declare that he needed a "crisis" to shut down the internet "... to protect the public safety, and the seizure of private files on the cloud as part of the MegaUpload shutdown.

Forming the Fourth Reich?   (c) Infinite Unknown

The paranoia builds also following the mysterious death [heart stoppage] of Andrew Breitbart, who had been in excellent health, shortly after he announced he was going to release tapes of Obama from his days at Harvard.

Reportedly, the tapes would shock the public.

Now, all this would seem unrelated, were we in different times.

But, since 2001 -- and actually before -- we've noticed increasing restrictions on our Constitutional Rights being enacted piecemeal by Congress, and by Executive Agencies interpretation of existing legislation.

We look to our elected representatives like #Congressman Issa to examine these Administration attempts to expand the cumulative police powers of these agencies -- hopefully, before we wake up one day and find ourselves in the midst of the Fourth Reich.

[Ed Note [06/126/2023]:  I marvel at the timing of the re-appearance of my blog posts which disappeared in years past, but now they miraculously reappear coincident with issues on which I reported early in my Blogging years - and which are once again relevant to mainstream issues.  [I will assume that my friends #Entheos and #Helen = Light @ManifestingUtopia

may have played a role in these event.

Genocide: Now in South Africa?

Apartheid ended; Mandela is dead; now, a role reversal?

Click here for related story [World Net Daily]
Archives for Nelson Mandela

We've been advised that South Africa is gradually exploding following Nelson Mandela's death.
We are noticing a spree of related crimes here in the US now by the Black Lives Matter thugs, though our situation in the US cannot compare to the horrors we've noted in South Africa.

It's not politically correct to report on such things, but,
then again, we're neither MSM nor are we politically correct.

ANC Youth League -- still strong 25 years later.
According to a variety of reports and rumors [both questionable and reputable], there have been plans underway for quite some time for a planned genocide of Whites following Mandela's death.

These plans were reportedly created and developed by the local SACP [South African Communist Party], with early assaults to be conducted by the ANC Youth League.

Although the rumors have been around for years -- they are gaining credence now that Mandela has died.

The reports have been downplayed by local politicians as "fantasy by Right Wing Militants", perhaps along the lines of Hillary Clinton's reference to the "Vast, Right Wing Conspiracy" in the US.  The operations carry various names, such as "Operation Vula", "Night of the Long Knives", "Operation White Clean-up", etc.

The rumors have gained traction of late since the ANC has been pressing to disarm the population and has legislated severe penalties for anyone using a weapon to protect person or property.

Night of the Long Knives Poster
Since Mandela remained in relatively good health, the rumors until recently have been low-key.  For the moment, South Africa is immersed in the postmortem beatification process of Mr Mandela; that will end shortly, and Whites will likely become targets.

Unease among Whites increased when the Mandela was hospitalized for "... a minor exploratory procedure to investigate persistent abdominal pain."  The hospitalization was brief, and Mandela returned home and "... and resumed his normal day-to-day life."  Mandela reportedly cautioned his followers to behave.

But, while Mandela was in his peace-keeping phase, his second wife, Winnie had morphed into a firebrand and jailed on terrorism charges for instigating riots in Soweto.  She took a dim view of "traitors" and decreed that South African Blacks would be freed "with our matchboxes and "necklacing".  Coincidentally, suspected "traitors" were burned alive via necklacing [hanging a tire filled with gasoline around the neck of a victim and burning him alive].

The South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission found her to be "... politically and morally accountable for ... the murder, torture, abduction and assault of numerous men, women, and children."  These events were not included in the films Winnie Mandela and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.  She remains a major influence in the ANC -- and she has made no secret of her hatred for Whites.

Whites in South Africa have been on edge over these perceived threats for some time, and look to Zimbabwe [formerly Rhodesia] where President Mugabe confiscated White farms and other real estate, and authorized the execution of Whites who resisted.

President for Life Mugabe
Mugabe succeeded in isolating Zimbabwe and driving out White farmers and businesses -- and the country is now in economic collapse.

Still fresh in the memories of both Whites and Blacks are Mugabe's Matbeleland Massacres in which he used his North Korea trained Fifth Brigade to torture and slaughter as many as 3,000 of his opponents.

Whites have been routinely murdered by Blacks, although the local police tend to ignore these killings since they fear retribution from the marauding Blacks.

As a result, most Whites are armed and reside in guarded compounds.

The story of Amy Biehl is not unusual.

Anti-Apartheid Activist
A 26-year old White Stanford University graduate student, Fulbright Scholar and an anti-apartheid activist in South Africa, she was driving her Black friends home to Guguletu township when a group of youths -- chanting "one settler, one bullet" stoned the car, injuring Ms Biehl.

Bleeding, she fled the car but was cornered by the youths who stoned and stabbed her to death -- despite the pleas of her Black friends.  The killers were later arrested and their defense was that all Whites were the enemies of Blacks. South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission pardoned the killers as they felt that:
".. a politically motivated killing was justified."

Since the 1950s, there have been several major events in Sub-Saharan Africa in which thousands of innocents, White and Black, were slaughtered in the name of "democracy and freedom" as well as just simple genocide.

Mau Mau Rebels
Kenya is notable for the Mau Mau uprising in which an estimated 50,000 Africans, Asians, and Europeans were killed.

Barack Obama's grandfather was supposedly incarcerated and tortured by British Colonial police for his role in these events [in reality, his incarceration for theft took place three years before the rebellion].  This legacy is reputedly the basis for Obama's deliberate insult to England when he returned the bust of Churchill to the British Embassy in Washington.

Rwanda, in 1994, was the genocidal scene of an estimated 500,000 - 1,000,000 persons of all races.  to include the slaughter of European UN troops.

The Akazu, the Hutu power group, orchestrated the pre-planned Tutsi genocide through the national government and military, and whipped the Hutu population into a frenzy through the print and broadcast Media.

There were a number of other bloodbaths of lesser scale in southern Africa, although most of the fighting was tribal with Blacks killing Blacks rather than Blacks against Whites.

Even with that history, Whites in South Africa seem outwardly to dismiss the rumors.  Among themselves though, they discuss the potential for violence following Mandela's death, and anticipate the possibility that South Africa will collapse into civil war.  The firebrands, to include Winnie Mandela, were kept in check by Nelson Mandela's stature and societal status as a moral leader.  Absent his moral leadership, there is little or nothing to prevent a purge of the White South Africans.

Many have emigrated; many more are planning to emigrate, taking with them their skills, companies, and employment for Black Africans.

As a footnote; keep in mind that South Africa is a "Nuclear Power" -- having created and detonated a nuclear weapon in 1979, reportedly with the advice and assistance of the Israelis.  But, we're sure that such a capability will not pose a threat to the region ......

FOOTNOTE 1:
Since the publication of this post several years ago, the rate of torture and murders in South Africa has increased exponentially.  White farmers have been forced off their farms and were targeted for murder by Blacks -- with the full support of the ANC.   The US Media takes the position that the White farmers took the land from Blacks illegally, a century ago, so the Whites should give up the land!  [Sound familiar?]

Many are seeking asylum in the US and Australia, where they will be welcomed as productive immigrants who can make a contribution and perhaps speak out on the issues of Open Border immigration by Illegals.
-------
FOOTNOTE 2: (Sep 2018)

Currently the South African government has authorized the confiscation of farms and other properties belonging to Whites.  It has also encouraged assaults on Whites, and ignored the abduction, torture, and murder of Whites -- without a single word of reprimand from the United Nations.

FOOTNOTE 3: (Sep 2018)

If you wonder if there is a force behind this chaos, look no further than China, and the Obama linkage there via Tim Geithner [former Secretary of Treasury and former President of the NY Fed] who speaks fluent Chinese [he was educate in China] and provides the Chinese with strategic information on US and European finances, and of US data on South Africa's valuable minerals [gold and diamonds] as well as the Rare Earth reserves critical to new technology.

Then again, China may have an interest in South African nuclear technology -- which the UN has been anxious to neuter, or exploit.
