Asheville: Ineligible for Federal Aid?

North Carolina citizens destroyed by Hurricane Helene are still trying to recover, lacking in many areas, electric power, communications, potable water, shelter, and in many cases, food!  Congress does not regard their plight as serious enough to create an emergency session to provide relief, and, hundreds, if not thousands of North Carolina citizens have died.

FEMA arrived with no support other than a photo op with a team of ten uniformed idiots passing a small log from one to another, after which they went out for a beer or two.

But, earlier, FEMA agents had threatened arrest and prosecution of an armed resident trying to guard his possessions.  FEMA has a questionable history following hurricanes, and a FEMA unit in Florida, following another hurricane, was reportedly arrested for looting houses in a devastated area.

My recommendation has been, in the last few years, that FEMA be eliminated and its funding rerouted to purchase supplies for hurricane victims - to be distributed by National Guard or Active Duty troops.

But this year, I'd like to highlight the fact that our Congress or the BIDEN-HARRIS Administration, which doesn't care about our hurricane victims, found time and funding sufficient to send more than $200BILLION in cash and equipment to UKRAINE and ISRAEL,

BUT NOT A CENT AVAILABLE TO THE HURRICANE VICTIMS!

-------------------------------------

This year the Kamala Harris Admin has given to UKRAINE:

(Do you think these donations would have helped US Flood Citizens?)

- 1,093 generators

- 93 miles worth of steel and pre insulated pipe

- 3,297 first aid kits

- One 28 megawatt gas turbine power plant, which is big enough
to provide power to a 100,000 homes, schools, hospitals!

- 11 auto transformers

- 1,500 miles worth of wire and cable

- 124 mobile boiler houses, which would help keep heat flowing
    through during emergencies, hospitals

- 460 TONS of transformer oil

- 20,151 Natural Gas sector support equipment

- 7,033 TONS of industrial salt

- 125 heat pumps

85 excavators

- 5 stationary boiler houses to provide heat/ hot water.

- 30 drones to help find stranded survivors in Remote areas

- 30 iPads to control the drones

- 6,007 TONS of methanol [cleansing; fuel for combustion engines and heaters]

- 495 instrumental transformers

- 547 circuit breakers [To rewire destroyed electric panels]

- 28 sets of disconnectors for the control cabinets

- 203 power transformers

- 10 bucket trucks

- 50 emergency vehicles

1 entire mobile data center

- 35 relay protection equipment sets

- 28 sets of IT equipment

Bailey Bridge Being Installed

This list does not include the major equipment sent to Ukraine (and Israel) consisting of hundreds of trucks, excavators, cranes, bull-dozers, temporary (Bailey) bridging, and engineering equipment necessary to clear roads and debris.

It also does not include the TONS of hospital and other medical equipment that could have served the injured citizens in Asheville and elsewhere in North Carolina.

It does not include the temporary hospitals and kitchens, or large tents for shelter, all of which are part of the TOE for the 18th Airborne Corps and could have been constructed in two days - but all of which were blocked by FEMA!

In a separate blogpost, I addressed how I (as a former Army Engineer), would have managed the Rescue/Recovery effort using the available equipment and resources of the 18th Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg, NC.
