It provides an historical perspective for the Israeli Terrorism issue to provide a context to the terrorist activities ongoing in Gaza today.
This senseless "terrorist" bombing was rated as one of the worst in the 20th Century!
During this period, Israel was attempting to, and later (1982) succeeded in creating a war with Lebanon using False Flag (PLO) operations to justify its invasion of Lebanon. While the world was distracted, Israel annexed the remaining areas of the Golan Heights from Syria, opening it to Israeli settlers. )

Seventy years after the pre-State of Israel Irgun underground militia blew up the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, killing more than 90 people, Professor Mordechai Golani called the attack "an act of terror that stained our history, leaving it scarred.”
Golani criticized historians and politicians who attempt to present that attack as an "explosion" and insisted on calling it an "act of terror".
“One would think that 'just some gas cylinders had exploded by accident'," he said. "Friends, these were no random gas cylinders. This was a serious terror attack, a malicious one that stained not only the walls of the adjacent YMCA building with blood — bodies were hurled that far — but stained our entire history.”

Casualties: 91 dead (28 British, 41 Arabs, 17 Jews,
2 Armenians, 1 Russian, 1 Greek and 1 Egyptian) and 45 wounded.
"The centre of the hotel and the south-east corner of the Secretariat remained standing. The six stories and 28 offices in the south-west corner of the hotel had become a 3-storey pile of twisted iron, cracked cement, red stone blocks and corpses." (Thurston Clarke)
The King David Hotel, Jerusalem, was an important social centre for those who could afford it. One wing was used by the Government Secretariat and the British Army; in addition to troops and Civil Servants, many Palestinian civilians worked there.
The rest of the hotel operated normally with bar, restaurant, lobby, and visitors coming and going.

| Diversionary Bomb Blast |
An earlier bomb in the street was diversionary, causing some alarm, but then everyone went back to what they had been doing. Such alarms were commonplace. The intent had been to detonate a bomb there after the building had been evacuated to ensure the maximum number of people died or were maimed. Its premature detonation was thus thought to be a diversion.

Description of the bomb composition and explosion:
"350 kilograms (772 pounds) of TNT became 250,000 liters [55,000 gallons) of hot gas.
At the center of the explosion, the gas expanded at a velocity of 160,000 MPH, heating the air to over 3,000 degrees Celsius (5,432 degrees F) and exerting a pressure 34 times normal atmospheric pressure."
The pressure burst the hearts, livers and lungs of the clerks working on the floor above.
The TNT exploded six minutes early and was devastating; the Secretariat wing collapsed as one floor fell on another. Many people were killed immediately, but a great many more were trapped between the fallen floors and severely injured - or crushed to death.
In the building itself, six floors of reinforced concrete slapped against one another and pancaked to the ground with a crash. More than 50 rooms collapsed, trapping many workers and guests between the slabs. An administrative clerk, unable to move as her legs were trapped in the rubble, died a slow and horrifying death.
"The suction ripped off clothes, tore rings from fingers and watches from wrists. It sucked the windowpanes out of nearby buildings, spewing shards of glass into the street.
"Automobiles rolled over, small trees were uprooted, and cypresses and palms bent backward as if battered by hurricane winds. Ivan Phillips's driver was killed when he was blown onto the metal spears of the YMCA's ornamental gate." [Thurston Clarke]
"I owe my life and the fact that I am able to write the story of the bloodiest terrorist outrage, to the cool courage of a British military policeman. When a great charge of dynamite blew up the Palestine Government Secretariat in the King David Hotel a few moments ago, I was walking through the hotel entrance.
"As the thunderous boom roared out, the five-storey building collapsed like a pack of cards with 200 British, Arabs and Jews inside, one military policeman on guard at the entrance threw me on to the ground and shielded me with his body.
"The black mushroom of smoke and dust rolled away over our heads and, tumbling out of the building came a macabre, ghostly procession of British officers, wives and waiters, streaming with blood, their hair and clothes covered in white dust.
I went to the top floor of the building and I saw Sir John Shaw, officer administering the Palestine Government, covered in blast and dust, and Commanding Officer Lt General Sir Evelyn Barker together breaking down a doorway in an effort to rescue trapped people." Captain Colin Mitchell and his company commander John Penman were within 300 yards:
"With the most shattering explosion I have ever heard, the King David Hotel vanished in a colossal billow of smoke and dust. John and I exchanged glances, knew that we must get back to the Battalion, turned and ran through the streets now filling with running troops and police, racing fire engines, ambulances and police cars: a scene of utter turmoil." '

Troops at Qastina, 40 miles away, rushed to assist in the rescue and had to force their way through Jewish roadblocks and under a hail of stones and abuse.

"By 1600 hours they were hard at work in the rubble. The task was a race against time, and not until all hope of saving further lives had been abandoned, days later, did they relax their efforts. "
"Day and night the rescue operations went on with the Sappers [combat engineers] working like men-possessed, for deep in the wreckage could occasionally be heard sounds which encouraged them to fresh exertions.
"At 2200 that night the Squadron was formed into three shifts, and for the next three days each shift worked 16 hours on and 8 hours off. Even so, some men refused to rest until, on the point of exhaustion, they were ordered to fall out.
"One Sapper (construction engineer) drove his bulldozer for 30 hours without leaving the wheel." The last survivor was under the debris for 71 hours before rescue."
"There were many acts of bravery at the scene including that of Police Sergeant 'Blackie' Smith who was awarded the George Cross:
"Nearby survivors heard shouts from a pile of concrete slabs near the remains of the canteen. Smith; he jumped into an opening and began burrowing. Within a few minutes he had dug a tunnel that almost reached the victims. Suddenly, the tunnel collapsed. He crawled out unharmed. A rescue worked rubbed his back with liniment and he re-entered the tunnel... Half an hour later Smith emerged again. Two wounded men crawled after him." [Thurston Clarke.]

Sergeant Edwina Payton, Chief Clerk, ATS, who, though uninjured after the explosion, instead of leaving the burning building climbed upstairs to search for her Palestinian Arab secretary.
Finding her badly injured, Edwina put her service jacket around her and went for help; not finding any she returned to find her friend dead.
[Begin and Meir would later flippantly claim that a 30 minute warning had been given - (via a blank envelope, delivered to the front desk by a 16 year old boy). Ergo, the British should have heeded the warning.
But, since this was one of numerous such warnings; terrorist warnings then were worthless and hoaxes were common disruptive occurrences.

Terrorists often want a building to be evacuated so that people are killed by another bomb planted outside.
So, Begin's "excuse" was even more deadly than reality. Was that "early detonation" planned to inflict the maximum number of casualties both in the building and in Julian's Way?
Here's a bit of background, as described by Al Jazeera:
"While the 1948 Nakba led to the physical expulsion of some 750,000 Palestinians, it is the British occupation in 1917 [in which the British took control of Palestine from the Turkish [Ottoman[government]. The subsequent Mandate sealed Palestine’s fate as the last British colonial project.
[The Nakba took place during and shortly after the 1948 Palestine war, including 78% of Mandatory Palestine being declared as Israel, the expulsion and flight of 700,000 Palestinians, the related depopulation and destruction of over 500 Palestinian villages by Zionist militias, and later the Israeli army and subsequent geographical erasure, the denial of the Palestinian right of return, the creation of permanent Palestinian refugees, and the "shattering of Palestinian society".]
[Prior to 1946, an estimated 40,000 European Jews had quietly emigrated to Jerusalem, where they were welcomed by Palestinian Arabls and integrated into the local economy as farmers or merchants. But, these emigres were not the Zionists who were delivered to Jerusalem by the British after WW2.]

The Zionist movement dates back to the 19th Century, but became a fixture after Lionel Nathan de Rothschild bankrolled Benjamin Disraeli, the bankrupt Chancellor of the Exchequer, and later Prime Minister in 1880. The Rothschilds created what would become the Bank of England; later, the Rothschilds directly financed the construction of the Suez Canal - without the backing of Parliamen, and could thus inflict pressure, in the 1890s, on Parliament to support the creation of the Zionist State of Israel.
Of special note is that the Bank of England, like the US Federal Reserve Bank, is not an agency of the "Chancellor of the Exchequer" [as the FRB was not part of the US Treasury], but functioned though in an official capacity.
What was the British interest in Palestine, or in creating Israel?
In 1917 British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour penned a letter to Zionist Second Lord Lionel Walter Rothschild in which he expressed support for a Jewish homeland on Palestinian-controlled lands in the Middle East.
Although the Balfour Declaration specifically stipulated that “nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine.” it became the later justification for the seizure of Palestine for the post-WWII establishment of Israel - which would serve, as lynchpin in the Rothschild/Eight Families control over the world’s oil supply.
[This agreement was a poltical mechanism to gain the support of the Jewish Media in the US to engage the US entry in WW1 on the side of the British, as well as a ruse to gain Jewish financial support for the Suez Canal acquisition.]
[Baron Edmond de Rothschild built the first oil pipeline from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean to bring BP Iranian oil to Israel. Rothschild also founded the Israeli General Bank and Paz Oil and is considered the father of modern Israel".
The British occupation Mandate made it possible for Zionism to gain a firm foothold in Palestine - complete with the ethnic cleansing and expulsion of the Palestinians, massacres, home demolitions, settlement expansions, land confiscation, everyday violence, attacks on al-Aqsa, building an Apartheid Wall, and issuing more than 40 laws regulating the rights of Palestinians.
Why would the Rothschilds want to own Israel - particularly Gaza?
