World War 3 Games

Will NATO Lure Us Into World War III

[This is another excerpt from the book of memoirs I'm creating]

[Since this segment [1940 - 1990] of US/World History has been ignored [erased]
in our education system, I'm providing a brief tutorial for our younger readers to set
the stage for this blog post. I'll start with a reference to the Benghazi horror
(orchestrated by Hillary and 0bama
and then discuss relevant parts of my history.]

----------------

You may notice I'm not promoting NATO in this post.

I've been following this worthless, corrupt organization for nearly 50 years; I served as their C2 [Intelligence Officer] - Theater Support Command [TASCOM] in the NATO CPX/FTX Able Archer 76; I later monitored their activities while I was assigned as an analyst at the Pentagon, and participated again within the global intelligence network supporting NATO [Able Archer 83] while I served as the US Southern Command Intelligence Officer [J2].

On 9-11 2012, neither Israel nor NATO could be bothered to intervene [
with the $Billions of air, land, and sea weaponry that we provided them
] when our diplomatic mission in Benghazi
came under attack - killing the Ambassador's bodyguard, and leaving our US Ambassador to be tortured and dragged through the streets until he died!

Two former SEALs attempted to defend the Consulate, and were also killed.

But the NATO leadership couldn't be bothered as the situation would have interrupted their cocktail hour and dinner party.

Recently, I noticed NATO has established a new headquarters in Norfolk, VA - and there was no visible US flag there. The UN has also staked out territory, fenced in, with armed guards in two of our states.
NATO Mascot

I suggest we stop funding this war-mongering collection of overdressed, pusillanimous popinjays, withdraw from NATO, and evict them from our soil.

They are intent on creating World War 3, employing Ukraine as an excuse, and using the conflict as a cover for their narcotics, human trafficking, and money laundering in conjunction with the Ukraine criminal Nazi regime there.

So far, the Biden Administration has laundered nearly $100 Billion through Ukraine to NATO and Israel while snickering up their tailored uniform sleeves at the naïveté of America.

If they want a war with Russia, let them have at it without the US.
We'll watch on TV as Russia bombs them back into the Stone Age!

A brief review of post-WW2 History to explain how NATO came to be.

Following WW2, the world was divided into the West and, until 1991, the USSR [aka: Soviet Union].
This status of two major powers, both ready to initiate World War 3, was known as the Cold War.

During the Vietnam War, the USSR backed North Vietnam, and the US backed South Vietnam, so, it became a Proxy War between these two military giants, each with enormous Military organizations and weaponry. To be politically/diplomatically correct, no one could say the two countries were "enemies", so I designated the USSR [for the purposes of briefings], a Potential Adversary. That term was quickly adopted (and likely claimed by a West Point grad). But, essentially, the post-Vietnam era became a potential war waiting to happen since the Military Industrial Complex was anxious for another profitable war.

Following my tours in IndoChina, I reckoned the US Military was pretty much destroyed by Presidents Ford and Carter - who regarded Military personnel as disposable. Nixon, a hawk devoted to ending the Vietnam War profiteering and rebuilding the US, was targeted and destroyed by the Leftist Media and the early Deep State, and driven out of the Oval Office.

In the interim, those of us still in Military Intelligence viewed the Soviet Union as a hostile force, with a potentially devastating arsenal. Our goal was to prepare our Military units by upgrading the Intelligence Process to ensure that our remaining Military forces [Active Duty, Reserves, and National Guard] were fully prepared for a head-on collision with the USSR, or, for another Proxy War designed for the Military Industrial Complex to test their new weapons. Creating, analyzing, and sharing Intelligences was [and is] the basis for predicting hostile forces.

Following WW2, and particularly Vietnam, the Military Industrial Complex was anxious to keep Military funding flowing in a solid, continuous and lucrative manner. And, what better means, in the absence of a war [or even a Proxy War] than to build the Threat Level posed by the USSR!

And, by golly, we needed a united front against that Threat, so we built NATO [North Atlantic Treaty Organization] in 1949, bonding together Western Europe and North America to defend against the Soviet Threat. The idea was to prevent another Blitzkrieg in which the USSR [replacing Nazi Germany] might try to conquer all of Europe.

Daddy Warbucks
[WW1 Profiteer]

So, the US, UK, and France, ignored the lessons-learned from the initiation of WW1 [The Great War] which was brought about following interlocking alliances among a large number of nations. That Alliance Network entangled all of Europe in supporting pledges of allegiance among neighboring allies.

Thus, [with the urging of the Rothschild bankers] Eurasian hostilities and the Balkan Wars exploded when a teen-age Serbian nationalist [Gavrilo Princip] assassinated Arch-Duke Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary. With lots of hostile propaganda (sponsored by the Rothschilds) armies were raised [with money borrowed from the Rothschild banks] to join together to fight the "bad guys" once the alliances had been drawn.

Ultimately, the ensuing Great War engulfed Russia, virtually all of Europe, the Middle East, and the Far East. These hostilities undermined Russian political stability, enabling the Marxist/Leninist communist/socialist forces to topple the government - thus creating the basis for the Soviet Union, which eventually rose to become the NEW THREAT!

It was on this incoherent alliance basis that the
NATO Alliance process was created following WW2.

Thus, Europe, and the World braced for WW3, a natural follow-on to WW1 and WW2, enabling the Rothschilds to make more money, and of course, the Military-Industrial Complex to flourish.

And then came the Bush Administration.

My role in this preventative process.

After completing the Intelligence Career Course and Counter-Intelligence Special Agent course at Fort Huachuca, I was assigned to the Forces Command Intelligence Group at Fort Bragg.

There, I combined the analytical components of the Forces Command classified library with the tactical components [Counter-Intelligence, Interrogation, Photo-Interpretation] of the MI Group [which later became the 525th MI Brigade] and developed what became the Forces Command Intelligence Training Detachment {FITD}.

I formalized its status by securing a TDA [(temporary) Table of Distribution and Allowances] and then cemented it into a (permanent) TOE [Table of Organization and Equipment],
formalizing its status as a Regular Detachment. Since commands were scarce, and reserved for Academy grads, I simply created my own detachment [with myself as a Commander]

MG Warner
West Point Grad
Not surprisingly, after I finalized my detachment - creating a new "command" position, the 18th Corps commander [Volney Warner] installed a West Point grad (with no Intelligence background) as commander of my new detachment -- with me as his deputy.

Within a month, the Academy grad had made national {Washington Post) headlines with a scandalous affair with a sergeant's wife.
[Forces Command General Kroesen then reinstated me as commander].

[Nonetheless, Warner spent most of his free time trying to sabotage my detachment; his goal:transfer all my Training Troops to his G2 shop; I had briefed him that, in time of war, my unit would automatically become a part of his G2 shop; and without my detachment training our combat units, those units would be ill-prepared for combat with "Potential Adversaries".

My argument was not persuasive as he merely wanted a showcase staff to present to General Kroesen of Foreces Command.  So, I simply outmaneuvered him.

(Warner could never understand how I could outmaneuver his devious plots; but, I had his communications guy give me a copy of all his comms with Forces Command HQ, and I would simply alert General Kroesen's Aide [my Ft Huachuca classmate] who would then respond to Warner with a warning that my detachment was not to be tampered with)].

Generally, the unit creation and transition process would have taken years, but, since my classmates from my Intelligence Career course now occupied key positions in the Pentagon and Forces Command headquarters, generating the requisite paperwork and coordinating it by phone with my classmates enabled me to create a rather sophisticated unit in a matter of weeks.

[Notably, only one of my 50 classmates at Ft Huachuca was a West Point grad. Upon graduation, he was awarded a plumb assignment in Europe with an NSA sub-unit where he served with distinction for a few months until he became a heroin addict and enamored of a Soviet GRU "hooker", who arranged for him to desert the US Army and provide the GRU with lots of encryption materials. ]

[However, after about six months, he returned to his unit; he suffered no penalties for "Desertion", nor did he suffer in the least and was eventually promoted to Full Colonel, ahead of his Ft Huachuca classmates.
(West Point graduates are the Army's Elites.) A non-Academy grad would have been court-martialed and imprisoned; Academy grads are rarely admonished for such miss-steps.]

                            {But, I've digressed}

To my advantage, the Brigade had previously dispatched small training teams to work with
National Guard [ARNG] and Reserve units, so, I merely formalized that mission as that of the FITD. After a few months, I was able to draw on all the personnel resources of the MI battalions of the Brigade, enabling me to select the best and brightest from those organizations which had no definitive missions.

By borrowing personnel with the Tactical specialties I needed, they became proficient as "instructors" and trainers, I could then dispatch mobile training teams to the hundreds of National Guard and Reserve units throughout the country. I enhanced the skills of my troops by sending them to the Fort Bragg Instructor Training Program where they learned to be professional Instructors, honed by watching themselves on videos. Thus, I had a very professional training organization. Ultimately, my soldiers developed their skills so their proficiency scores enabled them to be selected for accelerated promotions. This, of course, encouraged volunteers for my detachment.

Since we had received many kudos from ARNG and Reserve commanders throughout the US, we interpreted the need for combined training in a wartime scenario, and I had my officers create a CPX [Command Post Exercise] in which my instructors could create a War Scenario complete with briefings, maps, Soviet POWs, artificial situation reports [SitReps], Counter-Intelligence /Security Threat Reports, Interrogation Reports, and IIRs [Imagery Interpretation reports] to process for command briefings [to train G2s and commanders].

To enhance the "hands-on" learning process, my instructors became role players; so my CI guys became "informants" or "spies", my interrogators became POWs, [in Soviet uniforms], and my Photo Interpreters were able to provide aerial photography of the CPX battlefield.

To make the CPX more realistic, we used actual [classified] Order of Battle manuals [structure and tactics of Soviet [and later Iraq] combat forces to include identifiers of all equipment, markings, uniforms, insignia, etc.]. Thus, should my unit actually be deployed, we were proficient in all phases of the Soviet Military.
[I was later able to obtain aerial photography from SR-71s and satellite imagery (appropriately down-graded in classification)]

[Later, when the Middle East wars broke out, the ARNG and Reserve units were fully trained and familiar with the Arab Order of Battle, equipment, tactics, terrain, and strengths/weaknesses
(thus, the first Gulf War lasted only a few days

[OCS-Graduate]
General Kroesen
As luck would have it, while we were performing a combined CPX [Active Duty Division/ARNG battalion, Reserve Intelligence unit] in Texas, the Forces Command Commander [General Kroesen - not a West Point officer] paid a visit and was impressed; and, his Aide de Camp was my Fort Huachuca classmate [and my clandestine source], so he ensured the general took my briefing. Kroesen liked what he saw asked what support I needed for my unit, and I advised I needed:
    a) a secure operating and travel budget, "fenced in", that could not be
siphoned off by higher headquarters [i.e., Warner's 18th Airborne Corps]
    b) permanently assigned personnel to ensure I had a stable cadre of
instructors [a snub to Warner]
    c) authorizations for accelerated promotions and commendation medals
     for my superior enlisted troops

He said he could give me a) and b), but he'd have to work things out with the Pentagon for c) - although I later mysteriously had considerable success in promoting my troops!

By then, I had a superb, and well-insulated unit, with a team of staff officers and non-commissioned officers second to none.

My tenure though was interrupted by a "by-name-request" from General Kroesen to serve as the Theater Support Command [C2] Intelligence officer for the NATO Able Archer 76 CPX, supporting US and European forces, assessing the "Threat" to Rear Area Support/Logistical units [Air, Land, and Seaport].
As such, I got a valuable first hand look at the Soviet Threat, as well as the vulnerability of US forces, giving me food for thought for improving my training program.

[The Exercise was conducted in Germany - then, still an occupied country
[and the German citizens were treated like dirt by the Brits and French.]

155 Artillery
This NATO war-game played out as a Tactical Nuclear War in which Field Artillery guns [155mm] fired nuclear projectiles in conventional Lines of Battle; and we calculated the CEP [Circular Error Probability] for each strike [precise measurements with errors measured in radioactive miles].
In the end, NATO was scared shitless as the hypothetical wartime devastation spread from Germany throughout Europe, with most of the population decimated, the European Infrastructure was completely devastated - while the USSR was only slightly disturbed..

A major concern was that the post-conflict residual radiation had a very long half-life, as they would learn in Chernobyl.

Soviet spies monitored the exercise and, through NSA intercepts, we learned that the Soviets figured Russia would come out ahead since this type of war would be fought in Europe, with the USSR as the victor. However, "winning" would be pyrrhic since both sides would be enveloped by nuclear winds.

[Oddly, you'll find no reference whatever to Able Archer 76 as that seems to have been erased from world historical records; the concept that the US/NATO was practicing for a tactical nuclear war was not the reality the Pentagon [or any Administration wanted to publicize.]

[A number of years after I was transferred to the Pentagon, a rising star [Mike Flynn] took command of my detachment (somewhat atrophied by subsequent commanders), and converted it to the 111th MI Brigade in Ft Huachuca - which became, and remains, perhaps the best Military Intelligence unit in the Army.]

Later, in 1983, I was assigned to the US Southern Command [SouthCom] in Panama, and I became the USSOUTHCOM J2 for NATO Exercise Able Archer 83, during which a global conflagration was envisioned, and NATO might be incinerated.

Now, that CPX did hit the news, but only because a whistleblower revealed the close call.

The issue that caused that CPX to make the headlines was that the organizers and gamers failed to pay attention to the Soviets' actual activities while theoretical battles raged on the hypothetical battlefields.

For the most part, the Soviets monitored the NATO message traffic along with the actual NATO troop movements which were engaged in a simultaneous Field Training Exercise [FTX] which moved mechanized units closer to the USSR borders.

About three days into the exercise, the actual field movements of the FTX coincided with those in the CPX, and the Soviet Intelligence monitors were unsure what was the computerized game vs the actual movement of troops in the field. They prepared for a possible NATO invasion.

To the Soviet analysts, it appeared Able Archer 83 was morphing into a solidification of NATO ground, naval, and air forces in a combined operation the focus of which was an actual invasion of the USSR. Real Soviet message traffic then overlapped "Game" Soviet traffic, indicating that Soviet forces were on the move, and thus NATO "GAME" forces were morphing into an actual threat.

However, NATO forces engaged in the CPX continued to view the NSA intercepts of Soviet message traffic merely as GAME traffic.

Now, my role as the J2 [Intelligence Officer] at the US Southern Command was to observe and analyze all GAME traffic and brief the General Staff on the progress of the GAME WAR, and alert the staff at the point where the Southern Command might, hypothetically be drawn into this "GAME WAR" indirectly, in a support capacity, or as a direct participant if the Gamers created a Soviet feint towards the SouthCom Area of Responsibility [I,e,. the Gulf of Mexico, and Central and South America, from the South Atlantic.

Since I had created and managed similar CPXs in the continental US with actual US combat units, I was fully aware of GAME tactics of both US forces as well as Soviet tactics - the purpose of which was to teach US units what to expect in an actual war between the US and the USSR.

Ultimately, I was well schooled in Soviet tactics and strategy [matched by North Vietnamese elements in Laos and Vietnam]; my education was enhanced at the Pentagon while I managed the East Europe/USSR desk - monitoring all the components of the USSR as well as all the NATO components.

Since I had created and managed both CPXs and FTXs, as well as having served on the Soviet Desk at the Pentagon, I was cognizant of the difference between GAME message traffic and ACTUAL Soviet message traffic and real communications regarding Soviet activities.
As J2, I followed both GAME traffic as well as Real World NSA communications intercepts.

The keyword for measuring the highest DefCon level [DefCon 1: Cocked Pistol] in a potential wartime scenario was "Command Train", the term we learned at the Pentagon to cause us to examine all related activities.

In essence, if the Soviet Command Train were activated, it meant that the USSR Military had gone on full alert [DefCon-1], and the Command and Leadership Staff had boarded the Command Train, which would then move through circuitous routes, above and below ground as a deception technique to avoid US missiles.

Specifically, the Command Train would be activated ONLY as the Soviets escalated to DefCon 1 - i.e., preparing for immediate war! [It was NEVER activated in a training exercise]

LTG Perroots

To my surprise, a real NSA report revealed the activation of the Soviet Command Train - raising the USSRs actual status to DefCon 1 - Ready for War.

This was not a GAME message, but rather
an actual report of escalating Soviet Military status!
An initiation of WW3!

When I checked with the SouthCom Chief of Intelligence Analysis, he did have the communications alert regarding the Command Train activation from NSA, but neither he nor his analysts knew of its meaning - so they ignored it.

I determined this was a critical situation, and got on the secure phone [STU-II] and made a Flash-OverRide call
[that transmission status bumps off-line all other calls of a lesser priority]
to the NATO headquarters to speak with the USAF general [MG Perroots] in charge of the Intelligence portion of the Able Archer exercise.

Peroots also had no concept of the significance of the Command Train
I then explained the relevance of the situation to him, prompting him to alert the NATO command element - which then terminated the Able Archer exercise, de-escalating the crisis.

Naturally, he took full credit for his astute analysis, and was subsequently promoted to head US Air Force Intelligence, and then promoted to became Director of DIA.

Having achieved this moment of glory, [i.e., averting WW3] he never spoke to me again.

All told, the Soviets welcomed such NATO exercises which thoroughly demonstrated that WW3 would be a losing proposition for both sides, [something the Brits usually ignored since they felt their island to be immune from the fallout - nuclear and otherwise]
thus, the NATO exercises became, unexpectedly, a deterrent to actual wars.
The lesson I learned was that the NATO Intelligence organization could be counted on for absolutely nothing. Their priorities were pretty uniforms, hosting elaborate dinners, and posturing for the Press. When I was offered a senior position at NATO, I demurred and transferred to the Pentagon where I set about creating the Defense Clandestine Service.

In the interim, I had other tasks at SouthCom requiring my attention [e.g., the Iran-Contra fiasco]
