Meteor? Or was it!

Meteor Contrail?

DISCLAIMER
The video linked here is a Russian high-resolution capture of the "Meteor" which flew over Chelyabinsk, Russia on 15 February 2013.  We encourage you to watch the video before reading further [the musical soundtrack alone makes it worthwhile].

The videographer repeats the same 10-Frame sequence several times and highlights key elements to make them stand out more clearly.  We reviewed and noted the anomalies the videographer had noted, so we enlarged and examined each frame to see what else was there using Adobe CS5 to enhance the resolution and to contrast colors of each frame so the anomalies would be more clearly visible -- albeit a bit fuzzy.  Keep in mind that the video was recorded at a distance of as much as 10 miles, and NASA estimated the object's speed at 40,000 miles per hour.  We have added nothing to these photos other than contrasting shading and colors.

We presume that we will come under assault by the drooling fringe elements who will accuse us of wearing tin foil hats and consorting with little green men.  We're prepared to stand by our findings, and welcome challenges by those willing to identify themselves and their sponsoring organizations.  We have close to 30 years of intelligence analysis as the basis for our interpretations, but will accept alternate imagery interpretations from others with equivalent or better credentials.  We may even get a visit from the Men in Black.

Out of the Blue

In separate footage, we see an object appear above the "Meteor".  Subsequently, we see the object below the Meteor.

Cylinder Moves Faster than speeding meteor

We can make out a cylindrical object traveling parallel to, below and behind the meteor, quickly overtaking it.

This seems odd since, if it were a component of the meteor which had broken off, it would have spun off at an angle away from the meteor, and at a slower speed since it would have much less mass, and the spinning would create considerable wind-resistance.

The cylinder, overtakes and approaches the rear of the "Meteor"; the outline of an opening appears below the Meteor, and the object appears to enter it.

Subsequently, the "meteor" seems to turn away as the front of the "Meteor" flattens, and,
in the next frame a pointed bulge appears, not unlike a fin.

The body of the "Meteor" emits a series of "puffs" -- perhaps explosions, ejecting cylindrical objects above and below the "Meteor".  In the next frame, cylinders are ejected from the "front" of the Meteor, with one appearing to be the same object which entered the "Meteor" from the bottom rear of the "Meteor".

Ejecting Escape Pods as the Craft Turns?
We believe the "Meteor" is turning away, giving the illusion that projectiles/cylinders are being ejected from its front; however, if they were ejected from the front, the cylinders would be overtaken and consumed.  Instead, they easily speed away from the "Meteor" body.

Normally, pieces of a disintegrating meteor would move up or down, and then fall back away from the meteor since their mass would be significantly less than the meteor.  But, in this case, they seem to accelerate up/down, then move with the meteor at the same rate of speed, and subsequently, go forward and off to the left at a greater speed than the "Meteor".

We are inclined to believe the projectiles ejected from the "Meteor" are cylinders, and were likely escape pods.

The large cylinder which appeared to enter the tail of the meteor subsequently emerged from the "front" of the meteor at a significantly greater speed than the meteor was traveling.  It was much larger than the other cylinders.
Not your average meteor spin-off

Now, let's review the Meteor basics for alternate theories:

NASA provided these meteor statistics:

1) Diameter:   50 feet
2) Length:  Not estimated [it was assumed to be a spherical meteor]
2) Weight:  15 million pounds
3)  Speed:   40,000 miles per hour [mph]
4)  Time in Earth's atmosphere:  32 seconds

The Russian Space Agency estimates:
1)  Altitude:  3 - 6 kilometers [2 - 4 miles]
2)  Speed:     64,800 miles per hour
2)  Recovered fragments: 8 inches long
3)  Trajectory:  North - South, from Alaska to Chelyabinsk, Russia

Russian T-50:  1,560 mph
Some speculated that the Russians may have been trying to shoot down the meteor with air to air missiles, fired from a jet fighter.

That would require the fighter to travel at a speed significantly greater than 65,000 miles per hour simply to catch up to the meteor.  At this time, neither the Russians nor the US Air Force has any aircraft capable of flying in excess of 4,000 mph, much less, faster than 65,000 mph [that would be 18 miles per second].

Russian R77:  4,000 mph

The best and fastest Air-to-Air missile in the Russian inventory still cannot exceed 5,000 mph, which would leave it in the dust of the meteor speeding along at 65,000 mph. [Lets' presume a fighter might have been airborne when the meteor was first sighted.]

The best Russian Air to Air Missile cannot exceed 5,000 mph, and would have to have been alerted at least 15 minutes in advance to intercept the meteor.  There was little more than 30 seconds from the time the contrail appeared until impact -- on an unpredictable course. It would take the pilot roughly five seconds to find and lock on to his target, during which the meteor would have traveled 90 miles -- well beyond the range of his missiles.

Russian S-300VM SAM
The most sophisticated Russian SAM [Surface to Air Missile] is the S-300VM [as of Jan 2013]; it is mounted on a track-vehicle and is designed to track and defeat short and medium-range ballistic and cruise missiles traveling at speeds of up to 13,000 mph, up to an altitude of 30 KM.  Now, if the "meteor" were traveling at between 40,000 and 65,000 mph, and the S-300VM were in position, ready to intercept and track using its phased-array radar, it would still be impossible to strike an incoming "meteor" traveling four times as fast as the SAM.

Assuming the Russians were unaware of this "threat", it would normally take at least a few minutes to position the equipment, lock onto the target, and prep/open the tubes for launch.  The elapsed time for the visibility of the "meteor" in the Earth's atmosphere was a total of 32 SECONDS.

Firing a SAM at the "meteor" would equate to throwing a dart at an arrow in mid-flight to intercept it.  The Russian SAM may have the most sophisticated, computer guided radar tracking, heat-seeking missile, but the heat from the tail of the meteor would not be detectable until the "meteor" were within 100 meters, at which point the "meteor" would pass the SAM in less than a second.  Shifting the flight pattern to "chase" the "meteor" would be an impossibility. But, even if the SAM were fired the instant the meteor had been spotted, the launch and intercept trajectory would have missed the Meteor by about 50 miles [remember, the Meteor was traveling at 18 miles per second!].

Now, with all these facts as background, the Russians announced that they did not shoot down the "Meteor".  In this case, we believe the Russians since they chose not to become the laughing stock of the international scientific community.

Given the imagery appearing in this sequence of individual frames above, it appears that this fiery object was not a meteor at all.  The sequence showing the large cylinder entering the rear of the Meteor "tail" leads us to believe this Meteor may have been a craft shaped like an elongated teardrop -- thus the length would be closer to 150 - 200 feet, rather than NASA's estimated 50 feet.

Cylinder craft frequently sighted  by airline pilots
The speed at which the cylinders moved, particularly the one which approached and entered from the rear of the Teardrop craft and emerged from the front would indicate the cylinders were not pieces of a rock peeling off, but were perhaps escape pods ejected from an out of control space craft.

As each cylinder was ejected, it seemed to right itself, stabilize, and then set a course in tandem with the other cylinders.  Shortly after all had ejected, the Teardrop Craft flew over the horizon and exploded.

Our hypothesis:

Numerous sightings of Tear-drop UFOs
This was a spacecraft which had gone out of control after altering the course of the asteroid headed for Earth.

[A credible UFO site lists hundreds of sightings of teardrop shaped UFOs which maneuver at lightning speed and in extremes beyond human endurance.]

NASA's initial estimate of the size of this object was about 50 feet, presuming the long tail was not part of the craft.  Sightings of these craft by USAF and Airline pilots describe teardrop-shaped craft the size of a Boeing 737 and larger.
Superimposing the omnipresent Tear Drop UFO on the "Meteor" provides one explanation
Recap:
The large cylinder [perhaps a rescue craft] appears suddenly; a door opens below [as in the rear of a military cargo plane], and the rescue craft enters the body of the teardrop-shaped craft.  Gaining control of the Tear-drop, it coordinates the ejection of the crew in escape pods which have their own guidance and propulsion systems; they eject and fly away.  The control craft then exits the "front"/side of the Teardrop and speeds away at a much greater speed than the ejected escape pods; its entry into the Tear-drop was likely to steer the Tear-drop craft away from urban areas, facilitate the escape pods, and to control the detonation of the tear-drop craft.

[UFO sites have recorded hundreds, if not thousands of reports of "cigar-shaped" objects operating at lightning speeds and conducting extraordinary maneuvers, not dissimilar to the "escape pods" we see in these images.]

The speed at which the cylinders moved, particularly the one which approached from the rear and emerged from the front would indicate they were not pieces of a rock peeling off, but were perhaps escape pods from an out of control space craft.  To overtake the Teardrop, the rescue craft would have had to have been accelerating in excess of 40,000 - 65,000 mph.

As each cylinder was ejected, it seemed to right itself, stabilize, and then set a course in tandem with the other cylinders.  Shortly after all had ejected, the "meteor" flew over the horizon and exploded.

Enhanced video frame showing side of "meteor" as it turned

As we reviewed the details of the enlarged and enhanced images in each frame of the video, we found one exceptional image not common in meteors:
a clearly formed door frame!

Directly above appears to be a flat passageway between a rounded, elongated protrusion and a squared enclosure -- such as you would find on an airframe or boat deck.  The structures on either side of the passageway have straight edges, corners, and flat surfaces; not the configuration one would expect on a meteor.

The Challenger had no escape pods    [National Geographic]

Recalling the image of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster, there seem to be remarkable similarities -- except there was no escape from the Challenger.

Was this "meteor" an alien spacecraft heading uncontrollably into Earth's atmosphere and clearly visible destruction?

Were the cylinders we tracked escape pods?  And, where did they go?

Did an 8" meteor shard make this hole?

According to Russian authorities, there were no fragments of the "meteor" found that were larger than 8 inches.

They also claim there was nothing found under the ice where a fragment apparently crashed through the ice in Lake Chebarkul.

Bottom line: We believe the Meteor was a space craft.

1) It may have been attempting to move the asteroid away from a collision course with Earth, and in so doing, lost guidance control; that would explain its sudden appearance in Earth's atmosphere -- when normally, NASA is able to track even very small meteors for weeks to months before they approach Earth.  Had the asteroid collided with Earth, it would have devastated life on Earth, perhaps as did the asteroid which wiped out the dinosaurs.

2) It was most likely a "teardrop" shaped craft which emitted the bright white light likely due to air friction as it flew out of control through Earth's atmosphere.  The white streak was narrower than the actual craft, the outline of which became visible as it turned away from the camera, displaying external ports, a walkway, and a rectangular door. Another craft came to its rescue, assisting the Teardrop in ejecting the crew and steering it away from a populated area.

3) We suspect is may have been nuclear powered, and it likely left nuclear debris in the wake of its explosion.

Is it time for the government to come clean and inform the citizenry that in fact, there is alien activity in nearby space -- and it appears they are somewhat more technically advanced than we are.  The US and foreign military have been tracking these craft and their activities in near space for nearly 75 years. And cave men drew images of their craft and men in space suits 100,000 years ago.

Meteor Attack

Here's a threat we hadn't noticed before -- one that can destroy Earth.                           [ExtremeTech]

Click here for related story [The Economist]

See also the follow on analysis: "Meteor, or was it!"

Getting ready for Armageddon.

Seems as if the asteroid attack on Earth is not a new threat; merely one we're recognizing as one which is much more real than anyone could have imagined [other than Science Fiction writers] 20 years ago.  NASA has paid close attention to the asteroid designated 2012 DA-14, which is about 150 yards long; but that comparatively little meteor -- only 50 feet long -- weighed in at about 15 million pounds and was moving a bit above the sound barrier at an estimated 40,000 mph; meteoric, so to speak.

1,200 Russians injured

As our friends in Russia noticed, we'll need to pay closer attention to these space rocks that come crashing down on us.  Russian casualties there numbered over a thousand, not to mention considerable property destruction from spin-off reverberations given off by the supersonic speed of the meteor.  Had this meteor landed in downtown Manhattan rather than a remote Russian lake, we suspect it would have dwarfed the World Trade Center catastrophe.

The Bruce Willis movie, Armageddon, addressed the catastrophic effect of "a big one" hitting the Earth, and even designed a remedy to prevent massive destruction on/devastation of Earth.  Now, that as background to the Russian event has prompted our Congress to focus on how we are to prevent one of the rocks from causing us more problems.

Some of these asteroids are almost as large as Montana and have their own orbiting moons;  and, some are no larger than a Volkswagon Beetle - without a Moonroof.

Hubble Telescope                                       [NASA]

Over the last 20 years or so, we've been somewhat bewildered that our government has seemingly lost interest in space, going so far, under the Bush Administration, as to cancel the Hubble Telescope mission and sentence it to death by aiming it at Earth and having it evaporate in Earth's atmosphere.  We were assured that a replacement would be created and launched within the following 20 years.

Fortunately, the shrieking, bellowing, and snarling of the scientific community thwarted that extraordinary act of bureaucratic stupidity, and the Hubble remains in orbit to peek into Deep Space, and also to give us a close-up look at the asteroid and meteor threats to Earth.

The Hubble has been one tool in monitoring these asteroids and meteors, but, even that seems to have not been fully employed.  Not long ago, we launched a satellite whose sole mission was to track these objects; but it too seems to have missed the target.

As Congressman Steven Palazzo [Chair of the House Subcommittee on Space] noted,
"I find it rather ironic that the same day that an asteroid we've known about for a year passed within a few hundred miles of Earth, a meteorite caught us completely off guard."

So, what is the threat, and what's the origin of asteroids? Most of those we see roaring by our planet originated in our Solar System's Asteroid Belt, located between Mars and Jupiter.

Now, the official scientific origin of the Asteroid Belt is that it was formed as sort of an unfinished part of our solar system, and that's a good explanation.  Theoretically, when Jupiter formed, it supposedly prevented all these giant particles from cohesing into a planet.  And, some of those particles are the size of our Moon.

But, if you look closely at the space between Mars and Jupiter, there's a lot of empty space there, and it would seem likely that there's more to the story than just that explanation.

We suspect there used to be a planet there -- which somehow was destroyed, leaving all that debris which comprises the Asteroid Belt.

There are any number of explanations for such an event, ranging from a direct hit by a large asteroid, to a destabilized rotation on its magnetic axis [something Earth has experienced at least six times in its history], and some have even theorized it was destroyed by aliens long ago.

Whatever the cause of its destruction, we believe the asteroid and meteor debris are the remains of the destroyed planet since this debris carries, of all things, water -- and life forms, albeit primitive.

Meteor Water                 [Wired]

Now, we are told that indeed there is water on the asteroids -- and even on our own Moon.  It's not much now, but it is evident that the materials, chemicals, and elements on the surface of the asteroids derives from water.  So, the obvious question is, where did the water come from?

Oddly, the official answer is:
"Oh, why meteors carrying water struck the asteroids [and our Moon] depositing the water.  And that's how Earth got enough water for our oceans."  [That's a whole lot of water from little meteors.]

And the question we've not seen asked is
"And where did the water come from that would be found on meteors?"

No answer.

We conclude that the asteroids and meteors carry water that was once on a planet with oceans [perhaps like Earth?] that was destroyed in our Solar System long ago.

But, lets return to the immediate topic of Asteroid Threat.

Tunguska Meteor Impact

Just how much of a threat to Earth do we face from these celestial bodies, and is one of them headed our way that we won't be able to fend off -- leading us to a major disaster to deal with here?

Might that threat be the basis for the massive expansion of government authoritarianism, rumors of "FEMA Camps", federal purchases and hoarding of massive amounts of ammunition? and, increasingly bewildering restrictions on citizens' Rights via a long string of Executive Orders -- unopposed by Congress?

Tanguska: 100 years later, still no trees       EarthSky.org]

The 1908 Tunguska meteor was estimated to be about twice the size of the one that just struck Russia.  The air burst released 1,000 times the energy of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima.  It knocked down an estimated 80 million trees in an area of 830 square miles.

It's merely speculation of course, but if such a catastrophe were to occur in a populated area of the US, then Martial Law might be necessary to maintain order as food, water, and fuel supplies could disappear overnight.

And we could understand if our benevolent leadership is merely preparing a law-and-order scenario for the mass chaos that would result from such destruction.

Plans have been in place for 60 years to evacuate the federal bureaucracy to underground safehavens; but they were based on a nuclear holocaust -- not Mother Nature.

Something to think about.

How Intelligence Works

US Intelligence Community

I was made aware recently that the majority of folks -- particularly those in the intelligence and law enforcement fields, don't really have a grasp of how the tactical intelligence field functions.  So, I offer an example, from nearly 50 years in the past [now unclassified] which is just as valid today as it was then.  Some of the resources and technology have improved, but the basics remain the same.

Briefly, there are a variety of forms of intelligence, and I'll use only a few of those forms in this description.

To define, before we start
HUMINT:  One human collects directly from another
COMINT:  The monitoring of Communications
SIGINT:     The monitoring of all communications signals or transmissions.
PHOTINT/IMINT:  Overhead Photography, aka Imagery, from balloons, aircraft, or satellites.

[There are many other INTs, but, this is just a primer, and too much information would confuse you]
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/42/US_Intelligence_Community_members.gif
So, we begin.

A long time ago, in a place far, far away .....

Pathet Lao soldiers

I interrogated a Pathet Lao prisoner [PW] in Laos who had made it through several echelons before he reached me; he was tagged as low/no value because he was illiterate, had very little knowledge of military units of interest, and and had no ability to communicate in temporal or spatial terms.  But, I worked with him to improve my language skills, and because I thought the earlier interrogators had missed something.

NVA Soldiers in Laos
Backtracking him a few years, I learned he had been a guard at a supply cave; I determined [with some difficulty] the dimensions and content of the cave -- which were huge.  I then had USAF fly reconnaissance [PHOTINT/IMINT] over the area the PW described and used the color photos to help the PW show me the exact location.   To assist him in gauging distances, I gave him a cigarette and asked him how far into the cave he could walk before the cigarette burned out; measuring that distance as we walked together, I learned that the cave was approximately 200 meters deep.

Supplementally, he revealed that there was a small NVA contingent at the cave with a radio to coordinate incoming deliveries, so we used COMINT and SIGINT to track their communications and break their code, through which we established their delivery schedules.

Cave storage

This became "actionable intelligence" when we infiltrated the location, capturing the NVA [North Vietnamese Army] cadre and replacing them with our NVA doubles, maintaining normal communications with the NVA Binh Tram [logistics unit] which made regular deliveries.

We landed Air America cargo planes nearby, stripped the cave of its contents, and departed, after which we wired the cave for voice-activated audio [more COMINT] so that if the cave were recaptured by the NVA, we could monitor all conversations.  Our last act was to strafe/bomb the incoming convoy -- destroying it and all its contents.

Thus, the little PW who had been passed through several echelons after his capture and tagged as "no value", turned out to be one of the most valuable prisoners of the war since the information he revealed allowed us to destroy the NVA capability to launch their Spring Offensive.  c

Ultimately, the combat which was avoided saved hundreds, if not thousands of lives, the integrity of villages, and ended the war fairly quickly.

The victory, however, was pyrrhic since Henry Kissinger had bargained away the region to the Chinese in 1972. The US was forced to withdraw as if we had been defeated.  The crowning blow was that Kissinger, speaking for President Nixon, forced us to close down all agent nets in Southeast Asia,  and destroy all communications links with them -- apparently as part of his bargain with the Chinese.
-------
Kissinger -- Chinese Hero
Recently released National Archive documents recorded Kissinger's unilateral concessions to Zhou on 22 June 1972:

In Kissinger's words:
"... the US respects its Hanoi enemy as a 'permanent factor' and probably 'the strongest entity in the region'.  And, we have no interest in destroying it or even defeating it.
[underline added for emphasis]

Note:  This was well over a year before Congress, via the Case-Church Amendment, declared the end to US Military involvement in Viet Nam, Laos, and Cambodia in August 1973 --  and nearly three years before Saigon was turned over to North Viet Nam in 1975.

Did CIA Out Petraeus?

Here's an interesting revelation.  The British Daily Mail reports what the US Press ignores -- again.

Capsule:
The CIA Old Guard decided to destroy Petraeus' credibility when he learned of their rogue operation in Benghazi.  Disgracing Petraeus created the smokescreen they needed to hide their involvement in transferring arms to the Muslim Brotherhood.  They successfully manipulated the FBI and the Media, got rid of Petraeus, and diverted public [and Congressional] attention from Benghazi.

OSS Professionals in WWII
Ever since the OSS, only rarely has the CIA has had smart guys running the organization.  Following WWII, most of the professionals that General Donovan had recruited from the Private Sector returned to their old jobs as executives in the Fortune 500 and on Wall Street.

That left the Third String in charge, leading to some fairly amateurish and disastrous results [e.g., the installation of the Shah of Iran].  Nonetheless, enough professionals remained to create an excellent analysis element, and they performed well.  But, even they became politicized.

After Jimmy Carter and Stansfield Turner gutted the top two-thirds of the CIA's professional spooks, it's ranks were swollen with ex-cops and duds [e.g., Brennan] who assumed the spy mantel without any skills. Attempts to clean it up have always failed; the last guy who tried [before Petraeus] was Porter Goss.

Petraeus battled with the "Old Guard" [ex-cops]who were running rogue operations "off the radar."

We, in the Military Services, ran our own clandestine operations for years, long before the OSS was created in WWII. For the most part, those operations were productive, until the old "Counter-Intelligence Corps" [more cops] maneuvered its way into control, and we had the scandals leading to the Church Hearings of the early 1970s.

More destructive, though, was the fact that the CIA had oversight over all intelligence operations since the Director of the CIA was also the Director of Central Intelligence, with oversight over the entire Intelligence Community.  Our objection from the Military Services was that, if our operations were successful and productive, the CIA would step in and seize control -- and then bray on Capitol Hill and to the White House that these "CIA Operations" justified their senior control of Clandestine operations.

Periodically, the CIA would attempt to run paramilitary operations, and would requisition Military personnel from the Pentagon.  When those operations went sour -- as they often did -- the CIA would run to Capitol Hill and complain that "Military Intelligence" screwed up again, and their resources should be under CIA control.  The CIA won either way, and Intelligence Committee members, though suspicious, were overwhelmed with CIA "advisors" on both committees.  [These Advisors maneuvered political hacks like George Tenet and Leon Panetta -- both naive simpletons -- into the Director's position so they could run the Agency as they wished.

Porter Goss - The last real Spook at CIA

Porter Goss, an old hand in the espionage business and anxious to restructure the CIA to make it function properly, was immediately targeted by the Old Guard which floated a number of leaks to the Press to force him out of office.  And, they succeeded.

Military "Young Turks" drawn into the business from the Private Sector, via the Vietnam Draft, decided to restructure Military Clandestine operations and agent nets to meet the needs of Military operations in areas of potential conflict.

In 1984, we, created our own DOD Clandestine Service, consisting of well-educated Military professionals skilled in language, area skills, clandestine and covert ops, and paramilitary operations.

It was a highly successful program, drawing the praise of the Intelligence Committees of both the Senate and the House -- who felt it was such a necessary program that portions of the Goldwater-Nichols Act or 1986 were designed to ensure the DOD Clandestine Service became a career field and a path to flag rank.

Clinton cut the funding and the manpower authorizations, forcing many of these officers officers out of the Military, and eliminating our expertise in the Middle East and North Africa [and other hot spots], and penetration of terrorist organizations.

The results of these actions were notable by the complete surprise of the 9/11 attacks immediately following Clinton's removal from the White House.

John Negroponte - First DNI
Given the total incompetence of the CIA, and the corruption of the DCI position we recommended to the Bush Administration that a separate organization be created as a Director of National Intelligence -- leaving the CIA intact, but as just another intelligence agency -- equal to those which existed in DOD, NSA, NRO, Treasury, Commerce, and State.

The DCI was replaced by the Director of National Intelligence, headed by a diplomat of great experience in a variety of volatile environments, and who was well aware of the deficiencies of the CIA:  John Negropronte.

The story which prompted this post reveals that the "Old Guard" of CIA cops, has once again displaced a professional officer who was leading reform by finding and eliminating "rogue operations" -- such as those uncovered by Ambassador Stevens in Benghazi.

Brennan: Worst Choice to run CIA
And, once again, the Old Guard [consisting of former ATF, DEA, State Troopers, and street cops] has ousted a professional officer, and are desperately attempting to bring in one of their own witless buffoons to run the Agency  -- John Brennan, with the goal of an end-run around the Director of National Intelligence -- with ability to continue running rogue operations.

Mr Brennan will likely bring us to World War III.
